National Liquefaction Model (NLM) Final technical report

Published: 22 May 2026

The National Liquefaction Model (NLM) technical report describes a nationally consistent, data-driven approach to assessing liquefaction hazard across New Zealand.

It combines geotechnical, geospatial and groundwater data to estimate where liquefaction may occur and how severe it could be.

The report explains the model’s methodology, datasets and outputs, including vulnerability modelling and land damage maps, and how these can support earthquake loss modelling, land-use planning, and research.
